If you are just another human who frets the oh-the-diversified-University-world and the levels of sheer surprises you are about to pass through then I’m afraid you want to read this article. I have broken down a few 10 pointers topping the list of things you swear to doing before going to school or might as well continuing it after vacations.
Before I say anything, what you must know is, University is challenging yet an adventurous ride that comes in the form of living humans who make you reconsider the idea of humanity, also comes off as an internal politics which might be jaw dropping for some and in the form of the internal pressure of studies. However, what I also must acknowledge that there is no other better life than a “University life”, I ensure my whole life on that.
Look presentable:
Okay, so this is likely: You wake up at the last moment and run out of time to get yourself properly dressed, tie your hair in the nicest way possible, select nice footwear so you choose to wear whatever you see in front of you-disheveled hair, unfit pair of shoes and you head towards school. TERRIBLE IDEA!
What you possibly do is put aside potential outfit combination for the week an eve prior, I know it sounds high-maintenance and like far too much work but whatever it takes to look nice? However, this doesn’t have to mean coming up with seven different, weather-appropriate outfits for the week.
What you do is, wear a fairly decent outfit with good pair of footwear (Comfort should definitely be kept into consideration, because there is a lot of walking in University- at least in mine), tie your hair properly, do a little make up if you are too complexed about your skin imperfections but do not over do it and then make your way towards your destination.
2. Be observant:
No need to go crazy to see new things which seem appealing to eyes because chances are that they are equally risky and too early to put your hands into. As a freshie, be a silent observer. Try and have a knowledge of everything that is happening around you and how are people catering to the situation. Observe who takes part in what and why? Try and find out who is popular in your school and why? Learn who gets extra benefits in any event. Have a knowledge about what it takes to be a part of mega events happening in the University. Learn about the commotion of societies in your University and what it takes to be a part of it. DO NOTHING BUT OBSERVE!
3. Don’t be too quick in befriending:
I beg of you, pay extra heed to who deserves to be your friend and who doesn’t. Refrain from a huge friend’s circle. I would suggest, be a little more careful with people you choose to hang around with. In the very beginning, it’s better not to have many friends rather have just one or two whom you might just want to start your journey with. Too many friends will only lead to skipping your lectures, irrelevant gossips (apparently fun), indulging into politics and which you definitely won’t want to begin with as a freshman.
4. Interact with everyone, yes:
There is a thin line which separates interacting from befriending. Interaction at this point of life is substantial I believe. Social interaction or networking which I might call it helps you achieve your dreams, or show you a straight path if not more. It helps you learn from other’s experiences before you trying them out. So interact with your professors, with your colleagues most importantly, with your seniors.
5. Spend considerable time with your seniors whenever, wherever:
If you find reliable enough seniors in the crowd of thousands then I’ll call you a lucky one. Just joking. There are so many people in the institute who does have a heart of gold and only those kinds will help you with University related problems. Look around and find some. Spend good time with them. Ask them enough questions about how they dealt with a certain scenario as a freshman. How one pass through any course. What it takes to get a certain grade. ASK ‘EM ALL. Fact: I have been the most luckiest one to have the best guidance in the world from my seniors).
6. Carry everyday essentials in your bag:
It’s a basic thing that you carry things in your bag but whenever you are coming to a University, carry following essentials in your bag any day.
Deodrant (you never know how bad the weather is and how sweaty you can get)
Sanitizer
A small pack of tissue
Lip balm
Moisturizer ( at least I consider it essential considering how bad bad it feels if skin gets dried)
Power bank (ANY DAY)
7. Don’t force yourself into extra curricular activities as a freshman:
As I said earlier, it would be too early to do extra curricular activity as a freshman as you are only a baby in the institute having zero knowledge of how things happen here. So try and stay away from them for the time being.
8. Wear comfortable, least sun exposing footwear:
No matter how flawless your feet look in those flats and how spunky chic look it gives you, they will go coal black my friend, in this heat if you are planning to continue wearing it for the next four years. Wear comfortable shoes giving no space to sun rays reaching your feet hence saving you from deadliest tan.
GOOD LUCK!
